Here at Metro Paws we care about your pets safety and wellbeing. We want to assure you that every effort will be made to make your pets visit with us as pleasant as possible. We do not put your pet through any excessive de-matting.

Our policy is to assess your dogs coat and if it is found it to be too matted to comb out, without causing pain and stress for your pet, you will be contacted first, but that the groomer may need to take down the coat short enough to remove mats. All care will be taken to leave the coat as long as possible, but it will need to be taken down short enough to get under the mats. The process of removing an especially matted coat can sometimes cause your pet to be nicked. Senior pets and puppies are more prone to this as their skin is thinner.

Dogs with severely matted coats require extra attention, time and caution to ensure your dog is groomed as safely as possible. This extra care will incur an additional cost to the groom.

Because your pet is severely tangled or matted it is at greater risk of injury or stress. Every precaution will be taken, however, problems occasionally arise during or after grooming, such as nicks, cuts or clipper irritation.

Mats can be difficult to remove, and may require your dog to be shaved. Removing a heavily matted coat can cause nicks, cuts, or abrasions as the matted fur is tight against the skin. Heavy matting can also trap moisture and urine near the pet’s skin, allowing fungus or bacteria to grow, revealing skin irritations or medical issues that existed prior to the grooming process and have gone unnoticed.

In such event that our groomer notices any skin irritation or medical issue during any stage of grooming your dog, they will complete this form and note any issues that they have revealed in detailed description and inform you immediately. After-effects of the mat removal can include itchiness, redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions, and failure of hair to regrow. In some cases, pets may also exhibit brief behavioural changes.

Poor behaviour exhibited by dogs in the grooming room can be common with dogs who have not been exposed to regular grooming. Dogs that display bad behaviour not only put themselves at risk of injury but also our groomer. Our groomers reserve the right to refuse to groom any dog that displays behaviours that may put the groomer or the dog at risk of injury.

I (dog owner) acknowledge that matted dogs and dogs that display poor behaviour are at greater risk of injury during grooming and I will not hold this grooming establishment responsible for any accident or injury to my pet. I agree that if the groomer deems that my pet needs to be shaved, I will first be contacted, but understand Metro Paws policy with regards to matting. I understand that a matted coat can mask or cause other health issues (such as skin irritation, bacterial infections, fungal infections, and/or wounds), and that Metro Paws is not liable to treat any conditions discovered.

I hereby release Metro Paws from any liability associated with any and all injuries or medical problems that may be uncovered and/or occur during the grooming and de-matting process.Should my pet need veterinarian care after or during the process of grooming and de-matting, I agree to pay any and all veterinarian fees and costs associated.
